Cancer and Skincare: What You Need to Know

Friendly Reminder:Please join us as we support the Cancer Cartel community in giving back to those fighting cancer and their families. Immunocologie will be donating 15 percent of proceeds to the non-profit all October long. Karen and the Immunocologie family thank you for support.

My story of why I founded Immunocologie is no secret. After successfully beating a frightening diagnosis of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, I knew I wanted to do something more. I was so thankful for this second chance that I knew I wanted to give back. Having a professional background in skincare and beauty, I knew that I wanted to do something to help people look and feel their best.

While developing Immunocologie, I knew I wanted to create a line that was safe to put on—which, ultimately means in—our bodies. Chemo, while so important for battling cancer, is essentially dumping tons of toxins and chemicals into your body to fight this disease, which is why chemo is often accompanied by nasty side effects.

Unfortunately, cancer and cancer treatments can wreak havoc on the skin; I’ve experienced this firsthand. Treatments can compromise the skin and create various conditions and degrees of sensitivity. This is why it’s important to note that cancer is not a skin type—no two cancer patients are the same. This is also why it was important for me to formulate Immunocologie as a clean, holistic skincare line with none of the “no no” ingredients, such as toxins, artificial ingredients, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, mineral oils, formaldehyde, fragrances, or colors. Immunocologie is healthy for everyone.

My recommendation while looking for skincare products that are safe to use while undergoing treatment is that you look for ingredients that take down inflammation. Through my cancer journey and undergoing treatment, I found that it was most important to me to use products that included anti-inflammatory ingredients and properties for the skin. It was during this time I discovered the soothing benefits of French Green Clay. This is why the clays we use in each Immunocologie product are ideal for bringing down redness, sensitivity, and inflammation, as they’re known to draw and absorb toxins from the skin. This is also why it was so imperative to me to develop products that hydrate, lubricate, and replenish the skin as well as repair and support the skin’s microbiome—the barrier that protects your skin from external free radicals and toxins. With a compromised immune system, it’s crucial to protect and balance your skin and your body throughout your wellness journey.

I developed Immunocologie’s new Sensitive Skin Collectionto be suitable for the most sensitive skin, including those undergoing cancer treatments as well as any other medical conditions. This gentle, nourishing collection soothes, nurtures, and refreshes the skin to reveal a healthy complexion in just four simple steps:

Immunocologie's Sensitive Skin Collection

  1. Cleansing Lotion: Naturally and effectively cleanses the skin; rejuvenates the complexion by sweeping away dead skin cells; reduces inflammation and balances the skins pH for optimum skin health; and nourishes the skin to help it perform at its best with natural, holistic ingredients.

  2. Vital Ionic Mist:A drink for your skin; hydrates; reduces redness and inflammation; fights free radicals and external pollutants; refreshes and detoxifies using rich minerals to restore skin wellness. Fragrance and oil free. Use daily as needed.

  3. Hyaluronic Serum:Uses natural, dual-weighted hyaluronic acid molecules to pull water from outside and inside your body to hydrate and plump the surface of your skin; contains anti-inflammatory properties to soothe irritation and reveal a plumper, firmer complexion.

  4. Day Protection:A daily, light and soothing moisturizer that promotes a brighter, more even complexion; increases hydration in even the most sensitive and compromised skin; contains anti-inflammatory properties to nourish and soothe irritation. (Also, smoothes and softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; lifts and firms the appearance of slackened skin.)

If you or someone you know is living through cancer, I encourage you to try the Sensitive Skin Collection. As always, feel free to reach out to me at anytime at karen@immunocologie.com if you have any questions or concerns, it would be my honor to help you through this time.

If you or someone you know is in need of financial assistance due to the costs of cancer, please look into Cancer Cartel, a non-profit organization that provides financial resources to those fighting cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Immunocologie will be donating 15 percent of our October proceeds to benefit Cancer Cartel—please join us in cleaning up the cost of cancer and support this wonderful cause.
